There are many reasons to consider the installation of a Carpet Maintenance Program. The two which dominate are the appearance presented to visitors and staff, and secondly, the preservation of the investment in your carpet. The costs and disruption associated with full or even partial carpet replacement are substantial.

Appearance:
Carpet is probably the most visible and extensively used surface in your facility, and because “gravity works” it becomes the recipient of airborne and tracked in soils, as well as, the resting place for food and liquid spills (usually sticky). The soil and soil attracting materials cause the visible spots that detract from the appearance you wish to show to your visitors. This condition may communicate a lack of caring about the work environment that you provide.

Preservation of Investment:
If the soils and spills, that affect the appearance, are not managed properly, their properties will, in fact, shorten the usable life of you carpet installation.

Solid soils are abrasive, and will alter the smooth fiber surface causing light to bounce off the carpet surface in a distorted way. Even if clean, the carpet surface will look “different”.

Liquid Spills will penetrate the pile to the carpet backing. Most spills will cause the yarn bundles to stick together, lose resiliency, and collect soil. If not contained or removed, the sticky substance will “walk off” to adjacent areas of carpet and attract soil there. The carpet appearance either goes down hill, or requires corrective cleaning.

A well designed Maintenance Program – properly managed will:

• Provide your facility with regular site service to deal with the soils and prevent them from accumulating.
• Remove the spilled materials so that the effect is contained and eliminated in a timely manner.
• Address the various needs, as dictated, by the conditions that exist in your particular facility.
